In a number of projects, we at SIGNAL have been devoted to studying psychological rebuilding – how far can we get with the organisation and its need for value creation simply by thinking about how space can be used – without moving a single wall? We can get pretty far!
Our projects on the campus merger at the university colleges as well as our projects in primary schools and on office buildings show that it is normally possible to optimise 30-50 per cent of the physical environment.
The thought behind psychological rebuilding was also applicable to municipalities where they found free resources across administrations which made it possible to introduce new offers to the citizens.
We also have examples from analyses carried out in knowledge workplaces showing that 30-40 per cent of the existing square meters can potentially be used in a better way by rethinking the organisation’s ways of working.
